Which Formula Should I Order

Whole Life Puppy Food

TLC Whole Life Puppy Food is a complete and balanced diet formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for growth and reproduction, including the growth of large-size dogs (70 lbs or more as an adult). TLC does recommend this formula for small to mid-sized breeds puppies (under 70 lb when fully grown).

We recommend you feed your puppies our puppy food if they are small to mid-sized breed and recommend your new puppy parents do the same. Your puppy parents will switch to our Whole Life Dog Food at 10-12 months of age.

Whole Life Dog Food

Feed your dogs and puppies TLC Whole Life Dog Food for lifelong, complete, and balanced nutrition. TLC Whole Life Dog Food is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages, including the growth of large-size dogs (70 lbs or more as an adult).

TLC recommends this formula for all dogs above the age of 10-12months old and for large breed puppies (70+ lb when fully grown).

Puppies who begin on Whole Life Dog Food will stay on this formula throughout all life stages and will not need to transition to a different formula.

What is the difference?

TLC Whole Life Puppy Food includes slightly more protein and fat to support growing puppies. It uses fewer ingredients for optimal digestion.

Some large breed puppies do not need as high fat and protein content as small breeds and will be better supported by our Whole Life Dog Food.

How Much to Feed

  1. Review TLC Pet Food’s Feeding Charts consistently while your puppy is growing. Use these charts as a guideline for how many cups you should feed daily. Puppies and kittens grow fast, so their optimal feeding amount will also change fast.
  2. You will start to know your pet and their behavior very well. This will help you gauge how much your puppy should eat. It is important to consider their activity level and exercise routine when feeding. A very active pet may need a little more food than a less active pet of the same age and weight.
  3. Most puppies eat just about anything given to them and don’t always know when to stop. Be careful not to feed them just because they are willing to eat it or beg for more!
  4. Be aware of the dangers of overfeeding your newest family member. Feeding your pet too much food can lead to; loose stool, vomiting, and hip and joint issues. As well as more severe issues when they get older such as; heart disease, diabetes, and a reduced lifespan.
  5. Remember that feeding guidelines are general recommendations, but every pet is different. Examine your pet daily for signs of overfeeding and regularly weigh them at vet check-ups to ensure they are on the right track.
Signs your pet is at a healthy weight:
    • The outline of their ribs can be slightly felt and seen
    • Their belly tucks up when viewed from the side
    • They have a visible waist when viewed from above.

TLC Pet Food includes New Zealand Lamb, Fresh Chicken, and Omega-3-rich Atlantic Salmon, providing amino acids, digestibility, and palatability. High-quality meat-based proteins in your pet’s food are essential, and that is why meat is always our first ingredient! 🐾

Why I chose TLC Pet Food for our Pack

We have recently made the switch to TLC Pet Food for several reasons and I have been absolutely blown away with the product and service.

I was growing more and more dissatisfied with the "in store" experience of buying kibble. From unpleasant sales staff, to constant supply issues making it very difficult to even buy our kibble. The fact that TLC is online only and the shipping is free right to your door- awesome!! The customer service is outstanding, the sales people are so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and all of my ordering can be done right from home.

When researching the company one of the only complaints that I came across was folks that forget to order their food and then cannot get it in store. The autoship option completely solves this problem, they will help calculate how much you need and then you set your autoship accordingly. The autoship can be sped up, slowed down, or cancelled at any time.

Another aspect of TLC that I really like is the price point. Of course, we all want what is best for our pets, and cost should not be a factor when choosing the best food for them to live their healthiest life possible. However, spending huge amounts of money on the most expensive dog food simply with the reasoning "it's the most expensive so it must be the best" is a little sickening to me. TLC Pet Food is a premium food that is formulated to the highest standard. However, they are able to keep their price point reasonable due to the fact that they eliminate the middle man (pet stores) and ship direct to the customer.

There are many many very high quality dog foods on the market today, and it can be overwhelming trying to decide which is best for your puppy. In my opinion, honestly, so long as you are choosing from one of the high quality brands, you can't really go wrong. The market is so competitive, and pet parents are so much more well educated as far as what to look for in a dog food, that all of the high quality foods are formulated in a very similar way. Unless, however, if you are looking for something special such as for sensitive stomachs, avoiding allergens, etc.

Here at Diamond H Ranch, we fed Go! Solutions Skin and Coat Care for over 10 years. It was a great food, and I still highly recommend it to anyone thinking about that brand. I have also heard from past puppy families that have chosen to feed a variety of other foods and their pups have done great on them too- Merrick, Origin, Acana, Purina ProPlan, Taste of the Wild, Raw, etc. So at the end of the day, what you choose to feed your pup does come down to a personal choice. I will include a bag of TLC Puppy Food in your puppy pack, which will get you started and will be enough to transition to a new food if you so choose. However, I will also share my experience and you can trust that no small amount of research and planning went into selecting TLC Pet Food for our pack. You can feel confident in this food and that you are feeding a great food to your beloved fur baby.

After feeding the same dog food for over 10 years, the decision to make a change was very scary! I spent months researching all of the different options, discussing with puppy families and other breeders the reasoning behind why they feed what they do, and of course countless hours on google reading reviews, calculating and comparing nutrients and formulas. I feel very good about the decision that we made to switch to TLC and I feel confident in recommending it to all past and future puppy families. Our dogs like it, even the picky eaters, and everyone is looking great and feeling great!
